God’s Plan is Always Better
In a world driven by ambition, deadlines, and personal goals, it’s easy to fall in love with our own plans. We draw blueprints of our future, set our hearts on specific dreams, and often cling tightly to outcomes we think are best for us. But what happens when our plans don’t unfold the way we expect? What if the delays, detours, and disappointments are actually divine interventions in disguise?
The image of a little girl offering a single flower to Jesus, while He hides behind His back a whole bouquet, is more than just a sweet illustration. It is a powerful metaphor. It teaches us something profoundly spiritual: what we offer to God in trust is always returned in abundance. But sometimes, we must first let go of what’s in our hands.
Our Limited Vision vs. God’s Sovereign Plan
We often plan based on what we can see. Our experiences, resources, and expectations define our vision. But God’s perspective is eternal, infinite, and always purposeful. Isaiah 55:8–9 reminds us:
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
When we insist on our way, we may unknowingly settle for less than what God has intended. Like the little girl in the image who tightly holds a single flower, we may be unaware of the beautiful bouquet waiting for us — if only we trust and surrender.
Surrender Isn’t Defeat — It’s Faith
Surrendering to God’s plan doesn’t mean giving up; it means trusting a plan better than our own. It means accepting that while we might not understand the “why” now, God is orchestrating something meaningful, even in the silence.
Think of Joseph in the Old Testament. Sold by his own brothers, falsely imprisoned, and forgotten. From a human perspective, his life seemed off-track. But behind the scenes, God was preparing him to save nations. What looked like delay and suffering was actually divine preparation.
When God Says “Not Yet” or “No”
God’s “no” is not always a rejection. Sometimes it’s redirection or protection. That job you didn’t get, the relationship that didn’t last, the opportunity that slipped away — what if those “losses” were divine shields?
We grow frustrated when life doesn’t align with our prayers. But maybe our prayers were too small. Maybe what we asked for would have limited us, not liberated us. In hindsight, many people look back and thank God for the closed doors. Because the right door opened later — and it was better.
Faith Grows in Waiting
Waiting is never easy, but it’s often in the waiting that faith is refined. Abraham waited 25 years for Isaac. David waited years to become king after being anointed. Jesus waited 30 years to begin His public ministry.
In each season of waiting, God is not passive. He is working — in us and around us. He’s cultivating strength, humility, compassion, and endurance. He’s removing what doesn’t belong and preparing us to carry the weight of His blessings.
God’s Timing is Perfect
We may be ready in our eyes, but not in God’s timing. And God’s timing is never rushed and never late. It’s precise.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 says:
“He has made everything beautiful in its time.”
That means not before, not after — but in its perfect time. The blessing isn’t just about the “what” but also the “when.” A gift given too early can become a burden. But when it arrives in God’s timing, it fits perfectly.
The Bigger Picture
Sometimes we don’t get what we want because God is using us for a purpose beyond our understanding. What we see as a setback may be the very path through which someone else is blessed.
God’s plan is never just about us — it’s about the Kingdom. Your delay may lead you to a place where you can help others. Your pain may give you a voice to comfort someone else. Your journey may become someone else’s roadmap.
So, What Do We Do While We Wait?
-
Pray Consistently
Stay in communication with God. Even when you feel unheard, your prayers are seen. -
Obey Immediately
Walk in obedience even when you don’t see the whole picture. Faith means following even in the dark. -
Worship Faithfully
Praise is a declaration of trust. Worship shifts our focus from fear to faith. -
Serve Joyfully
Sometimes the breakthrough happens when we stop focusing on ourselves and begin lifting others.
Letting Go of “Your Plan”
There’s nothing wrong with making plans. Proverbs 16:9 says:
“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
The danger is when our plans become our idols. When we cling to them more than we cling to God. When we become so fixated on the flower in our hands that we don’t see the bouquet God is offering behind His back.
God doesn’t always give us what we want. But He always gives us what is best. And often, He gives far more than we ever dared to ask.
Final Reflection: The Beauty of Trust
Imagine the look on the little girl’s face when she finally lets go of her flower — only to receive a bouquet she never dreamed of. That is the journey of faith. To trust, to release, and to be amazed.
God’s plan doesn’t always make sense at the beginning. But it always makes beauty in the end.
So today, if you’re holding on to a plan, a dream, or a timeline, ask yourself:
Is this something I need to surrender?
Am I willing to let go of my flower for His bouquet?
Because truly — God’s plan is always better.
